BIG PINE KEY, Fla. – Family members are heartbroken for a young couple believed to be missing at sea after their plane crashed sometime last Sunday.

Ali Tufo and her boyfriend Tommy Campana left from Palm Beach heading for Key West in Campana’s single engine plane, but never made it to their destination.

“There’s always hope but I just don’t know anymore,” said Lana Tufo, Ali’s sister. “I see her in my dreams and when I wake up in the morning it’s really hard.”

Authorities said they were notified of the missing plane on Tuesday.

“For an aircraft to just go missing out of the sky and no one to report it until two and a half days later, it’s horrifying,” said Tufo.

The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its rescue efforts after debris from the plane was found on the ocean floor near Big Pine Key.

Rescue divers will attempt to recover the bodies of the couple on Tuesday.
