OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A grandfather said detectives and deputies were searching for the hit-and-run driver who injured his two-year-old grandson on Thursday evening in Broward County.
According to Gerdy St. Louis, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to an area near the intersection of Northwest 43 Street and Fifth Avenue in Oakland Park.
A BSO deputy was carrying a baby who was wearing a magenta pink top while holding another child’s hand.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue personnel decided the boy needed treatment at a nearby hospital. St. Louis said the child suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
St. Louis did not release a description of the vehicle involved, nor was she able to confirm a dispatcher’s report that a sports utility vehicle struck a toddler who was taken to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.
Crime scene tape surrounded a parked black Toyota Camry nearby. There was a pair of black, white, and red Nautica sneakers on the trunk of the Toyota. The driver’s side window was open.
There was also a white bag on the road that had red stains.
Jason Paul, who lives in the area, said the hit-and-run driver should have stopped. He suspects the driver was speeding.
“They have to get the police in this area watching the people speeding,” Paul said.
