Charge upgraded for suspect after victim dies following attack at psychiatric hospital in Pembroke Pines

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A South Florida man is now facing a murder charge after authorities say he attacked a fellow patient at a psychiatric hospital in Pembroke Pines.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 medical call around 7:10 a.m. Sept. 13 at South Florida State Hospital regarding a patient who was possibly experiencing cardiac arrest and who had injuries to his head.

Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue transported the victim to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition.

Authorities say they later discovered that the victim had been attacked by a fellow patient at the psychiatric hospital, identified as 63-year-old Alexander Ramseur.

Ramseur was taken to the BSO Main Jail on an attempted murder charge.

Police said he now faces a second-degree murder charge after the victim died on Friday.

Further details about the attack have not been released.

The victim’s name and age are also being withheld as his family has invoked Marsy’s Law.
