Man shot at Lauderhill gas station, crashes twice trying to drive to hospital

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Authorities in Broward County are investigating a shooting that ended in a pair of crashes.

It all started Wednesday night at a Valero gas station on busy State Road 7 just north of Sunrise Boulevard in Lauderhill.

Police said the victim was at the gas station and heard gunshots, before realizing that he had been shot.

The man then jumped into his car, hoping he could quickly drive himself to a hospital, but then things got complicated and something went wrong.

11 p.m. report:

He ended up crashing his car into a palm tree right outside Rick Case Hyundai, which is just half a mile down the street from the gas station where it all started.

“I was sitting at the light going north and I saw a car crash at the dealership,” John Hester said.

While rushing to the hospital, the injured man also hit a second car.

“He hit another car at the intersection...a boy got out and started yelling I’m shot, I’m shot,” Hester said. “(He was) a young guy. Looked real young to me.”

The woman driving that car wasn’t hurt.

The man who was shot was taken to the hospital by Lauderhill Fire Rescue in serious condition.

The gas station manager told Local 10 News that something similar happened a couple years back.

The cashier who was inside when it happened said he didn’t see or hear anything.
