Patrick Major (MCSO)

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A veteran corrections officer in the Florida Keys found himself booked into jail Wednesday, after state troopers accused him of insurance fraud and leaving the scene of a crash.

Lt. Patrick Livingston Major is accused of striking a traffic sign with a Polaris Slingshot three-wheeled motorcycle and leaving the scene without reporting the incident, then lying to his insurance company about what happened.

A Monroe County Sheriff’s Office news release doesn’t specify where the crash happened, though Major was arrested in Monroe County.

Major has been employed by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office since 1997 and worked at the Plantation Key jail, sheriff’s office spokesperson Adam Linhardt said.

He’s been suspended amid an internal investigation.

“I was disheartened to hear of this incident,” Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay said in the news release. “We will investigate it fully and take the appropriate action. As always, I will keep this community informed of significant events that occur in this agency, good and bad.”
