DAVIE, Fla. – A five-year-old girl was in the car when her father fatally shot her mother in the neck and head several times on Saturday in Davie, a relative told police officers, according to an arrest report that the Davie Police Department released on Tuesday.

The girl’s father, Oscar Edmundo Marin, confessed that he had killed his wife to his brother, a 911 dispatcher, and a DPD detective, according to the complaint affidavit signed by DPD Detective Johnnie Bennett dated Sunday.

Detectives believe Marin shot her seven times.

Police officers arrested Marin, who was born in Guatemala and doesn’t speak English, at the Kings Manor, a community of manufactured homes, near the intersection of State Road 84 and South Flamingo Road, according to Bennett.

After Marin called 911 shortly before midnight on Saturday, police officers reported finding him and his parked black 2015 Chevrolet Silverado with the victim and the firearm inside, according to Bennett.

Marin told a detective who speaks Spanish that he and the victim were arguing when she attempted to stab him, and a police officer at the scene reported the slain victim was holding a knife, according to Bennett.

Marin’s twin brother, Oscar Vinicio Marin, told police officers that when his brother told him what he had done he asked him to bring the tearful five-year-old girl inside the home and to call the police, according to Bennett.

Records show Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies had been holding Oscar Edmundo Marin without bond since Sunday at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale, and he was facing a first-degree murder charge.

Detectives were asking anyone with information about the case to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
