Thieves caught on camera stealing custom University of Miami helmet from Sports Grill in Doral

DORAL, Fla. – Two men were caught on camera stealing a South Florida sports bar’s prized possession, and police officers want to know who they are.

The item that was stolen is a University of Miami football helmet that was custom made for the grand opening of the Sports Grill in Doral, and the restaurant wants the pricey piece of memorabilia back.

Video shows the men trying to be slick, looking around before taking off with the helmet, but unfortunately for them, the entire heist was caught on camera and their faces are as clear as day.

“I guess they were scoping out to see if anyone was going to walk by and see them, and they took the helmet,” said restaurant employee Stefany Pina. “It was custom made for us and it was given to us for the grand opening, and it wasn’t even that long ago. It was in December.”

The custom helmet is worth between $850 and $900.

Employees at Sports Grill said the suspects were there on Sunday, Sept. 24 watching the Dallas Cowboys game.

There’s sports memorabilia all around the restaurant. The helmets are part of the decoration, and customers enjoy taking photos with the gear, but never did employees think someone would actually steal any of it.

“It’s not that they don’t see the value, because obviously they see it or else they wouldn’t steal it, but it’s just sad to see people do things like that,” said Pina.

Anyone with information or who thinks they recognize the men are asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
