Woman shot in parking lot in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood

MIAMI – Miami police are investigating after a woman in her 20s was shot early Sunday morning in a parking lot in Brickell.

The shooting occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday off Southwest 12th Street and Miami Avenue, around the time many bars and clubs close in the area.

According to residents who live nearby, this is far from the first time this has happened in the area.

Police said paramedics transported the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

While circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation, residents in the area said the parking lot has seen its fair share of action in just the last couple of months.

“I was told about it from security and I came down here and the road was blocked off,” Brickell resident John Matijevic said. “Very disappointing, yes. This is like the third one in, I believe, one or two months, and it’s just a shame that this violence happens in this wonderful community.”

Local 10 News has confirmed that one other shooting was reported in the same area back in late August.

That shooting involved a group of men who got into a fight while leaving a nearby club.

Police arrested one person in that case, but no arrests have been arrested in connection with Sunday’s shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
