Man arrested for allegedly punching 68-year-old woman on Miami-Dade Transit bus

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police officers in Miami-Dade County arrested a man who they said punched a woman while they were riding on a public transit bus.

According to authorities, the victim, a 68-year-old woman, was riding on a Miami-Dade Transit bus when the suspect punched her for no apparent reason.

Police have identified the suspect as 45-year-old James Wells, who they said is homeless.

Authorities said Wells punched the victim with a closed fist in the back of her shoulder. She was treated for bruising at the scene but did not require hospitalization.

After the incident, Wells got off the bus on West Flagler Street and fled north on Northwest 79th Avenue, and police said they caught up with him in a nearby shopping center parking lot.

Authorities said there was surveillance footage from inside the bus of the incident.

Wells was arrested and taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
