Fatal crash in Deerfield Beach involves large semi truck

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – Police in Broward County are investigating a fatal, multi-vehicle crash that involved a semi truck.

It happened Sunday morning in the area of Southwest 10th Street and Powerline Road in Deerfield Beach.

Traffic was blocked off in all directions in the area as the investigation was being conducted.

It all happened in front of a Deerfield Storage facility.

The crash involved a Wawa semi truck, which could be seen jackknifed.

There may have also been fuel that leaked, according to witnesses at the scene that Local 10 News’ Joseph Ojo spoke to.

Local 10 cameras captured foam on the ground near the truck.

According to authorities, a vehicle collided with the 18-wheeler, causing the crash.

The driver of that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

There appeared to be three cars involved in the crash, including a pickup truck with some damage to the driver side, and in the grass in front of Deerfield Storage there was a vehicle with significant damage.

Authorities said the drive of the semi truck was taken to the hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

No injuries were reported from the people in the third vehicle, which deputies said was involved in the crash due to secondary impact.
