Bicyclist fatally struck by SUV on Coral Way in west Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A fatal crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist shut down a portion of Coral Way Wednesday morning.

According to Miami-Dade police, the cyclist was struck by a silver Toyota RAV4 in the area of Coral Way and Southwest 72nd Avenue.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said westbound traffic was blocked on Coral Way from Southwest 70th Avenue to 72nd Avenue for much of the morning, but the roadway has since reopened.

A woman who works at a nearby store told Local 10 News that she heard a loud bang around 5:30 a.m. followed by the sound of a car’s breaks screeching.

The victim’s body was covered by a tarp on the ground for about three hours before being removed by the medical examiner’s office.

The woman who was driving the SUV was seen sitting in her vehicle as she spoke with police.

Police did not immediately confirm what led up to the crash or whether the driver will face charges or be cited.
