Boy, 6, calls 911 to report mom left him, little brother alone in filthy Miami-Dade home, cops say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 6-year-old boy called 911 Wednesday night to tell Miami-Dade police his mother left him and his 2-year-old brother home alone. Police said they arrived to find disgusting conditions.

According to an arrest report, it took hours for police to track down the absentee 25-year-old mother, Demetria Antwonette Spencer.

Police said after getting the call from Spencer’s son just after 9 p.m., they responded to the home in the 200 block of Northwest 84th Street, in an apartment complex located south of Larchmont Gardens Park in the county’s West Little River Area.

What they found, the report states, is the two boys “were indeed left home alone” without supervision.

“Officers discovered as well that the residence was very dirty, did not have power, or food,” the investigating officer wrote. “The children appeared to be dirty.”

Police said they tried to get hold of Spencer using a phone number the boy provided, but she didn’t answer. They also couldn’t find her in the area.

According to the report, officials with the Florida Department of Children and Families at around 1:30 Thursday morning.

Authorities were finally able to locate Spencer at 2:20 p.m. and arrested her on two counts of child neglect causing no great bodily harm.

She was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond plus a warrant for having no valid driver’s license as of late Friday morning, according to jail records.
