MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Two men from Miami-Dade County were arrested Sunday following a home burglary in the Florida Keys, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.

Deputies later recovered the stolen items, which had a total approximate value of $2,000, Linhardt said.

Stif Robert Benitez, 28, of Homestead, was arrested on charges of burglary and tampering with evidence, while Derek Gonzalez, 27, of Miami, was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence and accessory to burglary.

According to Linhardt, the victim reported the burglary after seeing one suspect wearing a mask and hoodie fleeing the scene with a lock box in a Toyota SUV.

The victim provided deputies with the vehicle tag number, security video footage and “other information,” Linhardt said.

The vehicle was later stopped on U.S. 1 in Marathon and both suspects were taken into custody.

Linhardt said the lock box contained a gold ring, four handguns and ammunition.
