Police said the victim told the officer that he had just been stabbed by a Black male wearing a blue durag, orange pants and a white shirt.

The officer issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) and the suspect, Devon Cooper, of Homestead, was found a short time later in the area of Southwest Fourth Street and South Flagler Avenue.

Police said Cooper had a cut on his hand, was wearing bloody clothing and had a knife in his possession.

According to the report, Cooper was detained for questioning and the victim was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center.

Police said the victim was interviewed at the hospital and told detectives that he was sleeping on the third floor stairwell of a parking garage when Cooper walked up to him and asked if anyone else was there.

The victim said he responded “no” and then went back to sleep.

But he said Cooper continued to engage in a conversation with him, at which time he asked Cooper to leave.

According to the report, Cooper stood over the victim and removed his jacket from his face.

The victim said he then noticed that Cooper had his penis out and was masturbating.

According to the report, the victim immediately got up and Cooper got into a “fighting stance” before stabbing the victim multiple times throughout the body.

During the struggle, he also grabbed the victim’s backpack and threw it over the railing, the report states.

Police said Cooper tried to snatch the victim’s other bag but he was able to prevent Cooper from taking it.

Cooper then fled the scene, authorities said.

According to the report, the victim identified Cooper in a photo lineup.

Police said Cooper was “uncooperative” during an interview with detectives.

He was arrested on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and indecent exposure.
