BSO detectives ID shooting victim as Derrick Givings, 42, of Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A 39-year-old woman was arrested after deputies said she fatally shot her neighbor in Pompano Beach on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

It happened at around 12:50 p.m. in the 2600 block of Northwest Seventh Street, authorities confirmed.

A BSO spokesperson said after receiving reports of the shooting, deputies arrived to find a wounded man, who detectives identified Wednesday as Derrick Givings, 42, of Pompano Beach.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue crews took Givings to Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives said a preliminary investigation revealed Patrice George, of Pompano Beach, shot Givings.

After being questioned by detectives, a warrant for George’s arrest was obtained, and she was formally taken into custody and transported to the BSO Main Jail, according to authorities.

Jail records show she faces one count of first-degree murder with a firearm.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear.
