Police ID victim found floating in Miami River

MIAMI – A body that was found floating in the Miami River Tuesday morning was confirmed to be a 35-year-old man who fell overboard from a boat on Saturday, authorities said.

Sky 10 was above the area around 10:30 a.m. where a body was placed onto the back of a boat and covered with a tarp near the 300 block of Northwest Second Street.

Miami police confirmed they responded to the scene around 10:15 a.m. along with Miami Fire Rescue personnel.

Police said the man, who they identified as Abraham Mgowano, fell overboard while riding as a passenger on a rental boat, along with 12 other people and vanished into the Miami River.

The U.S. Coast Guard was first notified of the incident around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities confirmed that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is handling the investigation into the victim’s death.

No other details were immediately released.
