Accusations of gun on campus prompts lockdown at Fort Lauderdale school

All clear has since been given

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A middle school in Fort Lauderdale was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after police received reports that a student on campus had a gun.

The report was made at New River Middle School, located at 3100 Riverland Road.

Police said officers responded to the school at 1:11 p.m. and searched the student’s belongings, but they were not found to be in possession of a gun.

A spokesperson for the school district confirmed that the all clear has been given and the lockdown has been lifted.

Police, however, said the investigation remains ongoing.

No other details were immediately released.
