Downtown Miami’s ‘Signature Bridge’ project set to transform cityscape

MIAMI – The arches are rising in downtown Miami as the Interstate 395 “Signature Bridge” project takes shape.

Local 10 News got a behind-the-scenes look at the “transformational” project, which also includes a greenspace element called “The Underdeck.”

“We are going to be opening up over 30 acres of community spaces, that will originate in Overtown, reconnecting to adjacent communities like Edgewater and downtown,” Oscar Gonzalez, the project’s outreach specialist, told Local 10 News. “We just want everyone to know that progress is being made on this amazing project that not only includes the total re-construction of 395 but the double-decking of 836 from 17th Avenue to I-95 and concrete replacement on I-95 from Northwest Eighth Street to Northwest 29th Street.

Gonzalez added: “All in all, these are transformational projects.”

It costs $840 million and also involves the Dolphin Expressway and Interstate 95.

The project is set to be completed in 2027.
