Fugitive Florida Keys pastor wanted for sexually battering teen girl captured in Texas

MARATHON, Fla. – Authorities have captured a South Florida pastor who they say was wanted for sexual battery on a minor.

Local 10 News has learned that Monte Chitty was captured in Woodsville, Texas.

Chitty, 62, is accused of battering a 15-year-old girl inside First Baptist Marathon.

He had been released on $75,000 bond following his arrest in March, but failed to show up to a scheduled arraignment on Monday and had since been considered a fugitive.

Prosecutors said Chitty took off in a white van with out-of-state plates and that they did not think he was still in the Florida Keys.

Chitty was located by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

He is expected to be extradited to Monroe County.
