COOPER CITY, Fla. – A Broward County family of five needs the community’s support after they lost everything during a sudden house fire.

Their neighbor, Mari Anne McDonnell, organized a fundraiser to help The Calhouns and their three children, who were not injured in the fire.

“They are always here to help others and really bring so much fun and life to our street,” McDonnell wrote after the fire on Friday in Cooper City.

According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael B. Kane, a mother and her son were able to leave the home, as the heavy flames were coming from the garage, which had a converted bedroom.

“I think the home can be rehabilitated and repaired,” Kane said.

The State Fire Marshal was investigating the cause of the fire. To contribute to the fundraiser, visit this page.
