Man, 22, faces charge of attempted felony murder

KEY WEST, Fla. – A police officer fired at a 22-year-old man who police say was in a tractor when he struck a patrol car on Saturday outside of the College of the Florida Keys in Key West.

According to the Key West Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Ethan Robert Layne was damaging cars and a building at the college’s Lagoon Landing dorm at 5891 College Road.

The Keys Weekly Newspapers published photographs on Facebook showing an overturned pickup truck, mangled metal doorframes, and damaged windows.

Police officers arrested Layne, who wasn’t injured. Monroe County inmate records show he reported working as a groundskeeper and he was facing a charge of attempted felony murder.

Court records show Layne’s arraignment hearing was set for 9 a.m., on May 17.
