DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — Deerfield Beach commissioners are set to consider whether or not they will follow Coconut Creek commissioners and settle a lawsuit with Waste Management of Florida related to the Monarch Hill landfill.

Coconut Creek commissioners voted unanimously on Monday to approve the settlement, which will not prevent an expansion. Commissioner Joshua Rydell said it was a victory.
“The landfill is eventually going to close ... we were able to get an agreement with Waste Management to guarantee the closure of a landfill,” Rydell said.
In February, Broward County commissioners voted to approve a horizontal expansion of the landfill that Waste Management operates at 2700 Wiles Road, in Pompano Beach.
