MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A man was airlifted to a hospital Tuesday afternoon after a shooting was reported in Miami Gardens, first responders confirmed to Local 10 News.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials, paramedics responded to the 16800 block of Northwest 24th Court after receiving reports about a possible shooting.
Paramedics confirmed that the man was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Miami Gardens police said the victim was shot in the chest and that witnesses saw multiple people “fleeing the scene in a vehicle.”
Home surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News shows the victim and another young man banging on the door of a woman’s home after the shooting, begging for help.
The victim could be seen pressing a towel over the wound to try and stop the bleeding.
Inez Harris said it was her door that they were knocking on.
“I wasn’t going to let them in, because you know there’s so much things going on now,” she said.
But Harris did call the police to try and get the victim help.
Harris also said that she didn’t hear any gunshots.
“Me and my sister was in the back looking at TV -- all I heard was the ‘bam, bam’ on my door,” she said. “Every time you look around, somebody is getting shot, somebody is getting killed. It’s so depressing.”
Authorities have not said whether they are seeking any suspects or persons of interest.
“The investigation remains ongoing,” a police spokesperson said.
