According to an arrest report, Daniel Angel Odio-Surarez, 36, of Cutler Bay, was taken into custody a couple hours after the shooting on an attempted murder charge.

Hialeah police confirmed that the shooting was reported at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday outside La Lunita Cafeteria, located at 2200 W. Eighth Court.

A security guard at the business told officers that Odio-Surarez got into an argument with the victim, and then chased the victim around Odio-Surarez’s Mercedes-Benz SUV while firing shots at him, ultimately striking him in the leg.

According to the report, Odio-Surarez fled the scene after the shooting and went to Miami International Airport where he boarded an American Airlines flight that had a final destination to Havana, Cuba.

Police said Homeland Security helped to divert the flight back to the terminal where Odio-Surarez was taken into custody.

According to the report, Odio-Surarez provided a “full confession” to the shooting, telling detectives that he paid $406 for the plane ticket in an attempt to avoid being captured by police.

Police said the victim was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital after the shooting, but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

As of Monday afternoon, Odio-Surarez was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
