MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Gardens police fatally shot a 33-year-old man at a home on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
“The officers were called out here initially based on a family member, calling, stating that the individual was suffering from some type of crisis,” Miami Gardens Police Department Chief Delma Noel-Pratt said during a news conference.
When police arrived at about 4 p.m., they said the man was armed and appeared to be trying to harm someone on the property while “going through some type of episode.”
Noel-Pratt said officers were then forced to open fire. One or two officers fired their weapons, striking the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators confirmed that multiple guns were recovered at the crime scene.
The man killed in the police shooting has not been identified as of Saturday morning.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, which is protocol for any police-involved shooting.
