MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man and a woman were killed early Friday morning in a crash on the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 and Southwest 208th Drive, authorities said.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies and fire rescue crews responded around midnight after receiving reports of a serious traffic collision.
Authorities said when deputies arrived, they found two mangled vehicles — a black Mercedes and a black BMW — involved in the crash.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced both drivers dead at the scene.
They said the Mercedes was being driven by a woman, and the BMW was driven by a man.
Local 10’s Jolena’s Esperto was at the scene, where she saw a piece of the woman’s hair on the roof of the car she was driving. The ages and identities of the drivers were not immediately released.
Miami-Dade traffic homicide detectives spent almost eight hours at the scene investigating and cleaning up before tow trucks removed the vehicles.
Authorities confirmed that all southbound lanes of U.S. 1 were reopened just before 8 a.m., and traffic is no longer affected.
Amy Friedman, who witness the the aftermath of the crash told Esperto that she was scared after walking into that scene.
“I would be in fear for my life. I’m a pedestrian. You have other people that are pedestrians, including children, so you have to look out and be safe,” she said. “Everybody needs to be responsible and be careful.”
Investigators have not yet released information about what caused the crash. Authorities said they will provide updates as more details become available.
