MIAMI — Police officers in Miami are investigating a deadly shooting.
It happened Monday at approximately 6:45 p.m. in an alleyway in the area of Northwest 51st Street and 13th Avenue.
“I mostly got scared,” Joel Jose, who lives nearby said. “I was on my bed and then I laid down on the floor cause next to my room there’s a window.”
According to police, officers responded to the scene after receiving a ShotSpotter alert and found a 19-year-old man who had been shot.
Police said that man was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to authorities, two other people suffered non-life threatening injuries in the shooting.
Officers said an 18-year-old was shot in the leg and ran to nearby Charles Hadley Park, where he called police.
That victim was taken to JMH in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.
A third victim who was also shot in the leg called 911 and was taken to JMH, according to authorities.
“I’ve been living here for almost eight, nine years, and have never seen this,” Jose said.
Police said a group of young males were hanging out near the alleyway, and everyone ran off once the shots rang out.
According to police, they are “looking at” the deceased teen as one of the shooters, but are seeking to identify at least one more.
Officers also said that a rifle was located, but that their investigation remains active and ongoing.
“We got our Homicide (Unit), we got our Assaults (Unit), we have our Gang Unit,” Officer Mike Vega said. “We have all the units working together in unison to gather information, get these cameras, (and) see what we gotta do to be able to view these cameras.”
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
