MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities responded Wednesday afternoon to reports of a shooting in southwest Miami-Dade that left a 15-year-old boy injured.
Miami-Dade deputies said the teen and a 16-year-old friend were walking near Southwest 80th Street and 152nd Avenue around 4:30 p.m. when someone in a vehicle opened fire.
The 15-year-old was struck in both his upper and lower body. His friend was not injured and helped him get to safety and called 911.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the victim was transported by ground to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital.
“This is a heinous crime against children,” said Samantha Choon, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Sky 10 flew over the scene just after 5:30 p.m., and spotted clothing on a sidewalk near Southwest 76th Street where deputies assisted the teen.
Deputies from the Hammocks District blocked off several blocks along Southwest 152nd Avenue while searching for clues and trying to determine a motive.
Some neighbors said they did not hear the shots, only the sirens.
“I saw cops driving by one after another, and all of a sudden I saw an ambulance coming down Sunset. That’s all I know. I didn’t see anything else,” one resident said.
The 15-year-old is listed in stable condition. Authorities said his friend is shaken by the incident.
No other details were immediately released. Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
