The incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Sunday at Memorial Regional Hospital, located at 3501 Johnson Street in Hollywood.

According to authorities, one of the victims said that he brought the suspect, Anthony Sama, his lunch after Sama woke up.

The victim told police that Sama, 18, dropped some of the chips he was eating on the floor before stating “that if someone drops something on the floor, they need to pick it up, because if they do not, someone could punch them and they would not see it coming,” according to an arrest form.

Police said shortly after making that statement, Sama got out of his bed and lunged toward the victim, attempting to punch him and grazing the victim’s head. This led to a brief scuffle between the two that was broken up by responding security officers.

During the scuffle, police said Sama spat in the face of another healthcare professional.

Both victims told police they wished to press charges.

Sama’s doctor told police he would need to be treated for another week before he could be released.

He is facing two charges of battery on a healthcare employee.
