MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper shot a woman early Saturday morning after authorities said she attacked him with a knife on the Dolphin Expressway in northwest Miami-Dade.
According to FHP Lt. Alex Camacho, troopers responded at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday to reports of a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the expressway near Northwest 107th Avenue.
Camacho said a trooper later located the vehicle in the grassy center median and made contact with a woman.
Authorities said the woman then pulled out a knife and attacked the trooper, prompting the trooper to discharge his gun and strike her.
They said both the trooper and the woman were transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where they were treated for non life-threatening injuries.
The trooper’s wife identified him as Julio Cidron in a statement under a donation website.
Camacho confirmed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation, which is standard protocol for FHP whenever a trooper-involved shooting occurs.
No other details about the incident were immediately released.
