The initial crash occurred around 11:55 p.m. near Northwest 135th Street and Northwest 57th Avenue, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said a vehicle struck a tree and caught fire.

They said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews extinguished the flames and pronounced the male driver, who has not been identified, dead at the scene.

At about 2:44 a.m., a MDSO vehicle was parked while blocking an intersection because of the earlier crash in the area of Northwest 135th Street and Northwest 47th Avenue, authorities said.

They said a separate vehicle drove through the intersection and struck the deputy’s vehicle on the right side, causing damage. The deputy sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, authorities confirmed Saturday morning.

Authorities said the driver of the vehicle who struck the deputy’s vehicle was detained.

No other information about either crash was immediately released.
