Officers with the Hollywood Police Department said they conducted a traffic stop just before 8 p.m. near North 19th Avenue and Tyler Street.

During the stop, an officer observed a large amount of cash, a gun and “illicit drugs” inside the vehicle, police said. They said Brandon Cleve Dawkins, who was in the vehicle, was on federal probation for an offense out of Georgia.

Investigators said Dawkins was asked to step out of the vehicle but instead jumped back inside and sped away.

They said he eventually crashed into an electrical control box and continued fleeing before abandoning the vehicle. Officers later located him at ArtsPark at Young Circle in Hollywood, where he was taken into custody by members of HPD’s ACE Unit, according to police.

Jail records show Dawkins is facing multiple charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of oxycodone, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, fleeing and eluding police, resisting an officer without violence and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

As of Saturday morning, he was being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail.
