POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Authorities in Broward County are investigating after a man was fatally shot over the weekend.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 1600 block of North Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach at about 2 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a body in the roadway.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man who had been shot. The man, identified as Rayon Sanchez, 40, of Pompano Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units were called to investigate.

The 1600 block of North Dixie Highway was shut down for around four hours overnight, but the roadway has since reopened.
