MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — The Miami Beach Police Department is launching what it calls an “E-Bike Squad” in the city’s Art Deco District.
Police unveiled six new e-bikes that will make up the new detail. They were donated by a foundation set up by local real estate broker Andres Asion.
Officials say the department’s new e-bike unit was launched to enhance public safety in the art deco district.
Officers say the new additions will help them navigate areas with more pedestrians.
“What we’re unveiling here today is not just a donation of bikes,” Asion said. “These electric bikes are tools. They are going to help our police officers be more visible, more mobile, more connected to the community, especially in the Art Deco district, one of the most important and busiest areas of our city.”
Officials say the E-bike Squad is a permanent addition to the department.
