OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — First responders rushed to the scene of a crash in Opa-locka on Sunday morning.
It happened around 7:10 a.m. in the area of Northwest 135th Street and 27th Avenue.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it slammed into several parked cars.
Resident James Moyer said he walked outside of his home to see a vehicle engulfed in flames.
“When the car hit, it blew up right here and became a fireball,” he said. “It was a fireball straight down the curbside.”
The man driving was ejected from his car and pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders, authorities said.
Two women who were passengers in the man’s vehicle were rushed to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital via helicopter in critical condition, according to MDSO.
“The girl was still close by, I pulled her away from the car with my wife,” said Moyer. “Broken bones, barely breathing, trying to fight for her life at that moment.”
The department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances that led up to the crash.
