MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 79-year-old man is facing two murder charges after deputies said he stabbed his partner and her son to death at their townhome in northwest Miami-Dade.
Investigators said the killing happened on April 18 at the Antigua at Country Club of Miami townhomes in the 17500 block of Northwest 67th Place.
While the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as the suspect’s wife and stepson, the daughter of the mother killed told Local 10 News in an email that her mother was never married to the suspect, Jose Vidal.
Detectives said Vidal got into an argument with his partner’s son, who accused him of stealing a large amount of money and was planning on evicting Vidal from the home.
Investigators said the two got into a fight, things turned violent and Vidal stabbed his partner and her son.
A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest report states that it wasn’t until the following Monday, two days later, that Vidal rode his bicycle to purchase a lottery ticket, then rode to Memorial Hospital West six miles away in Pembroke Pines, claiming that he was attacked by two men who stabbed him, knocked him unconscious and then awoke to find the victims dead.
Detectives said surveillance video showed Vidal walking through the community wearing specific sandals that left footprints in blood that was found inside of the home. They said there was no evidence of anyone matching the descriptions of the supposed suspects Vidal gave.
The Spanish-born Vidal was arrested Friday on two second-degree murder charge and appeared in Miami-Dade bond court on Saturday, where a judge ordered he be held without bond.
