Police said officers arrived at the scene and found the victim, Ana Leyva, 58, suffering from multiple dog bites to her arms and legs.

She was the airlifted by Hialeah Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

“During the investigation, officers identified the dog involved in the attack and observed multiple dogs on the property in poor condition, including signs of malnourishment, lack of clean water, and unsanitary living conditions,” an HPD spokesperson said in an email to Local 10.

Police confirmed that the dogs’ owner, Jairon Alvarez, 22, who is Leyva’s son, was taken into custody on charges of animal cruelty and resisting arrest without violence.

Miami-Dade Animal Services removed 10 dogs from the property as part of the ongoing investigation, authorities said.
