NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — One person was killed and another was injured overnight in a shooting in North Lauderdale, authorities confirmed.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the shooting was reported at about 1 a.m. Friday near the 7900 block of Southwest Seventh Court.

A BSO spokeswoman said deputies arrived at the scene and found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

North Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel transported both victims to a local hospital, where one of them died.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene later in the morning as investigators remained at the scene, placing evidence markers on the ground before a Ford Mustang was towed away.

The driver’s side window was blown out by bullets.

Residents who live in the neighborhood told Local 10 News that they heard the sound of gunshots around 1 a.m.

“I was coming home from a long night,” one man said. “I got home, I fell asleep and I woke up to gunshots, like they were pumping magazines or something that it woke me up.”

Bloody bandages and medical supplies were spotted at the scene after the incident.

A BSO spokeswoman said deputies later found the suspect vehicle near the 1300 block of Avocado Isle in Fort Lauderdale, where the driver was taken into custody.

The driver’s identity has not yet been released.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
