Speeding boater kills diver in Florida Keys, deputies say

LITTLE PALM ISLAND, Fla. — A speeding boater hit and killed a woman diving in the Lower Florida Keys on Friday, authorities tell Local 10 News.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened in the waters off Little Palm Island, which is just south of Ramrod Key.

Deputies said the 27-year-old woman had a dive flag up as the boater sped by and hit her.

Authorities have not yet identified the victim or said whether the boater will face charges.

According to MCSO, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is handling the investigation.

Local 10 News has contacted a FWC spokesperson seeking additional information.
