Suspect in custody after shots fired in Deerfield Beach armed robbery attempt, deputies say

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — A suspect is in custody after an armed robbery attempt turned violent Friday evening when shots were fired in Deerfield Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., deputies said they responded to the 1100 block of South Military Trail after reports of a shooting.

They said two individuals who were known to the victim attempted to rob the person at gunpoint. During the encounter, one of the suspects fired a weapon at the victim, according to investigators.

Authorities said the victim managed to escape and was not injured.

Through investigative methods, deputies said they later located one of the suspects involved and took that individual into custody. The second suspect’s involvement and whereabouts weren’t immediately released.

Detectives with BSO’s Robbery and Crime Scene Units said they’re investigating the circumstances surrounding the attempted armed robbery and shooting.

The suspect in custody has not yet been identified.
