MARGATE, Fla. — Most businesses were back open Sunday after a Saturday night shooting at a Margate shopping plaza left several storefronts damaged by gunfire.

Police said a fight broke out involving several people at the plaza in the 300 block of State Road 7 when someone pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Bullets ripped through multiple businesses, including a barbershop where the front glass doors were shattered. Cleanup crews spent Sunday morning sweeping up broken glass and debris.

The Dollar General and several neighboring businesses were boarded up after bullets pierced their storefronts.

One man who shops at the plaza regularly, and asked not to be identified, said the shooting could have ended much worse.

“There could have been a major loss of life. Thank God that there wasn’t, but that is what comes to mind. Each one of these bullets could have hit someone,” he said.

Local 10 News cameras were at the plaza Saturday night as police taped off the area, spoke with witnesses and investigated the shooting.

Video from the scene showed bullet damage scattered across several glass storefronts.

“Thank God nobody was killed especially on Mother’s Day,” the man added. “Let’s hope they catch the people responsible because this is just nonsense.”

Police said no one was hurt in the shooting. Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
