The vehicle was spotted in the water shortly after 7 a.m. in the area of West 16th Avenue and 68th Street, just east of the Palmetto Expressway.

Hialeah Fire Rescue officials told Local 10 News that Hialeah Gardens police notified them about the vehicle and the agency sent their divers to the scene.

Residents in the area told Local 10 News they are worried that someone might have been inside the SUV when it plunged into the canal, however HFR officials said no one was found inside the vehicle.

Divers and tow truck operators worked together to eventually remove the SUV from the canal.

HFR officials said the scene has since been turned over to the police department for further investigation.
