MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A 37-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on accusations that he molested a 12-year-old girl as the victim was walking to school in Miami Gardens and told her he wanted to “trick her out,” police said.
According to an arrest report from the Miami Gardens Police Department, the crime happened at about 9:40 a.m. Monday near Carol City Middle School.
Police said the victim was walking on the sidewalk along Northwest 37th Avenue and 188th Street when Carlos Alberto Jean, of Miami, parked his white truck on the swale and then walked toward the victim in a “hasty manner.”
According to the report, Jean told the victim that she was beautiful and that he wanted to “trick her out” and “spoil her.”
After asking the victim her age and whether she had a boyfriend, he asked her, “When do you turn 13?” and then wrote his phone number on her arm, authorities said.
Police said Jean then touched the victim’s vaginal area over her clothing as he returned the pen to her, at which point the victim jumped back and continued to walk toward the school.
According to the report, the girl reported the incident after arriving at school and detectives reviewed the school’s cameras which captured the victim’s interaction with Jean, corroborating her accusations.
Police said the victim identified Jean in a photo lineup and he was taken into custody the following day on charges of lewd & lascivious molestation on a child 12-16 and battery.
Jean provided some kind of admission, which was redacted from the publicly released report, but denied touching the victim’s vagina, according to the report.
As of Wednesday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”
