DORAL, Fla. — Authorities in Doral arrested a mother and daughter accused of stealing from a dental office they both worked at.
According to police, the victim owns the Doral Dentistry Specialty Center located at 7902 NW 36th St.
The victim told investigators that the suspects, identified as Kaylyn Lopez, 24, and Cynthia Joya, 53, had been stealing from the business for about a year, from March 2025 to March 16, 2026, according to arrest reports obtained by Local 10 on Thursday.
It was on that date the victim said both women abruptly resigned from their positions without any notice and could not be contacted afterwards, investigators said.
That’s when the victim told police he began conducting an internal review of business records and financial transactions involving Lopez and Joya and discovered they had misappropriating company funds.
According to police, the suspects would accept cash and Zelle payments from clients and retain the funds for personal use.
The reports state that investigators subpoenaed a Bank of America account “that both defendants maintained and controlled” and discovered “multiple Zelle transactions conducted between the defendants and clients of the clinic” that had not been authorized by the business owners.
Jail records show both women were taken into custody on Wednesday and are each facing felony counts of third degree grand theft and organized scheme to defraud.
They were booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center early Thursday morning, where both remained as of Thursday afternoon on individual bonds of $5,000 each.
