FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The trial continued on Monday for two men charged in the killing of a South Florida firefighter.
Facing first-degree murder charges are Torrey Holston, 26, and Jose Garcia Romero, 27.
They were 19 and 20 years old respectively when police said they shot Coral Springs firefighter Christopher Randazzo, 39, in the back of the head before robbing him at the Southern Seas Resort in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea in October 2019.
On Monday, a detective with the Broward Sheriff’s Office was called to the witness stand, recalling his response to the murder scene seven years ago.
Prosecutors showed him pieces of evidence he collected from the body of Randazzo, who was found face down by officers with no shoes, wallet, keys or phone.
Exhibit after exhibit were shown in court, including items that tested positive for the suspects’ DNA and bullet casings found near the scene.
Holston and Garcia Romero are also charged with robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy.
A third suspect already pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact.
