Authorities confirm remains found in Little Haiti belong to missing woman Trukita Scott

Scott, 24, was last seen in Miami Gardens after leaving her job at U-Haul in Fort Lauderdale. She was reported missing that same day when she failed to pick up her kids from daycare.

In a news conference at the Fort Lauderdale Police Department on Tuesday, Scott’s aunt, Lynnette Finnie, said she had “no words” to describe the feeling of finally knowing where her niece was.

Now that her remains have been found, the question that still remains, 12 years after her disappearance, is who killed her and why.

“We need the people (who) are responsible for her disappearance and her death be held accountable,” Finnie said.

Scott’s ex, Carl Watts, has long been the subject of suspicion. Authorities revealed that Scott had met with Watts at a Fort Lauderdale hotel shortly before her cellphone activity stopped.

The 49-year-old is currently behind bars for killing his wife.

Watts, then 45, attacked and stabbed Shandell Harris, 30, then shot and killed her a day later at her daughter’s swim lesson.

He’s also been romantically linked to another murdered woman. Vickie Simmons, 25, was killed at a Miami motel in 2009.

At a court proceeding in April, Watts told investigators where to find Scott.

He has not been charged with her killing or that of Simmons.
