An arrest report from the Florida City Police Department states that the incident started with a 5:30 p.m. confrontation in the intersection of Palm Drive and Krome Avenue.

Police said Billy Graham Tindal, 63, of Lakeland, began honking at the victim, who was in the intersection after the light changed and “drove within inches of his vehicle,” prompting the other driver to give him the middle finger.

Authorities said Tindal, who is temporarily living in Homestead, eventually followed the other driver onto U.S. 1, where he tried to run him off the road and then “rolled down his window and pointed a small handgun” at him. The report states that Tindal waved the gun again while both were at a red light north of Florida’s Turnpike.

According to the report, the victim called police and followed Tindal at a distance to Hummingbird Drive and Jay Court in Homestead, where an officer from that city’s police department arrived.

Florida City police arrived later and said that Tindal gave “multiple conflicting statements” about the incident and claimed that he was the one nearly run off the road, saying he pulled into a hotel parking lot to “get away” from the other driver.

Authorities said Tindal’s own dashboard camera showed that he was the one behaving aggressively and never pulled into the hotel lot like he claimed. The arrest report states that the video showed Tindal trying to run the other driver off the road but the investigating officer didn’t see him “visibly brandish(ing) the firearm in the video footage.”

But police said they did seize a gun from Tindal after taking him into custody on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and reckless driving.

As of Thursday, Tindal was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $2,650 bond.
