WEST PARK, Fla. — A woman says she was about to shop at a dollar store in Miami-Dade County when two suspects hopped in her Mercedes-Benz SUV and took off, later crashing it at a home north of the county line Friday morning.
Authorities said deputies tracked the vehicle down and a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy tried to pull the suspects over, but they refused to stop and eventually crashed into a fence in the 4700 block of Southwest 31st Drive in West Park.
Deputies said the two suspects bailed, but were later taken into custody after law enforcement set up a perimeter.
Nadia Williams, the victim, described what happened in a parking lot off Ives Dairy Road.
“I hopped out of my car, trying to grab some household items and when I hopped out ― the kids ― they hopped in the car,“ Williams said. ”I just called the police. I had the tracking app on my phone, so I wasn’t too worried about like chasing them or pursuing them.”
Williams said her car is now likely a total loss.
“I kind of wish the police did not pursue them in like a high-speed chase, since we already (were) tracking it,” she said. “They could have waited till it, like, came to a stop, but things happened and now the car is gone.”
Authorities have not identified the suspects.
Smiling in spite of her sudden predicament, Williams concluded, “What a Friday morning.”
