It happened on Saturday around 5:23 a.m. in the area of 79th Street and Byron Avenue in the North Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach.

Police said the driver remained at the scene following the crash.

Loved ones said the victim, Abraham Fernandez, was heading to work after being called in on his day off.

He lived just three blocks away from his workplace, family members said.

“We are still in that stage that you don’t feel like it happened,” said family friend Marta Lorenzo.

It’s an extremely tough time for his family, as Fernandez’s mother is currently battling cancer in Spain and his father is dealing with health problems as well.

His father did not want to let him go.

“Yesterday, the doctors came to the room, and they said when are we going to let him go, and the dad did not want to disconnect the machine. He said can we wait two more hours, and then after two more hours they came in, (and he asked) can we wait another hour,” said Lorenzo.

“He cooked for his father, he was happy, music on the whole time,” added Lorenzo. “He loved music, he composed music.”

At the scene of the crash, Fernandez’s uncle paced back and forth while his girlfriend remembered the last thing he told her.

“He gave me a kiss, he told me he loves me and I told him, ‘Please be careful’ and 15 minutes later he was dead,” said Jara Bardaji.

A GoFundMe page was created to help loved ones with expenses.
