Officers with the North Miami Beach Police Department said Stanley Guerrier, of Miami’s Little Haiti area, is accused of opening fire during an altercation outside Taboo Miami, located at 337 NW 170th St., around 6:40 a.m. on May 2.

According to the report, Guerrier was involved in a fight with the victim before “unlawfully discharging a firearm in a reckless manner toward the victim,” striking him during what investigators described as an incident “demonstrating a depraved mind without regard for human life” in a crowded area.

Police said they responded to reports of a man shot outside the business.

They said the victim had already been transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital by an individual before officers arrived, according to the report.

Investigators said surveillance video showed Guerrier arriving in a black BMW SUV, exiting the vehicle, and approaching the victim before the confrontation escalated.

They said surveilance video shows Guerrier pushing the victim, who then struck him in what appeared to be self-defense. At that point, Guerrier allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at the victim, according to the report.

Police said after the shooting, the suspect vehicle fled the area. The victim initially went back inside the club before exiting again with an injury to his hand and was transported to the hospital, according to the report.

Detectives later recovered a projectile and a cellphone at the scene, the report states. Security personnel and witnesses provided statements, and surveillance footage was reviewed with investigators and the club’s owner.

Police said Guerrier was later identified through investigative leads, prior law enforcement contact, and surveillance video.

They said he was taken into custody on Sunday without incident after officers located him and detained him on an outstanding probable cause alert.

According to investigators, a gun was recovered during a search incident to arrest, and Guerrier was later interviewed after waiving his Miranda rights. The report states he and another individual made statements to detectives during questioning.

Authorities said they believe the altercation was over an “unknown female.”

Jail records show Guerrier is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place or residential property.

As of Tuesday morning, he was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
